NP Global

The purpose of this project was to develop a portal for Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s students to able to book their overseas activities online. These activities include items like internship, excursions and group travels.

This portal is a customized application within the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Student Sharepoint Portal, developed using Sharepoint Webpart and Microsoft .NET. This Portal also interfaces with the NP NPAL System running on PeopleSoft which is the main NP system storing Student information and the NP Course and curriculum data as well as student examination results.

The purpose of interfacing with NPAL is to extract student profile information as well as financial and curriculum data to determine the eligibility of project participation as well as financial assistance allowed.

This Portal allows students to log in, to view upcoming activities and apply for them if interested. If their applications are approved  by their lecturers, subsidies will be provided. The amount of subsidies will be calculated by the system based on the rules set by the school. Loan requirement module is also provided for students who need additional funding. An email application was developed to inform the students of the outcome of their application.

The system also allows Ngee Ann Polytechnic to know more about the success and outcome of these activities they have organized. Therefore, a forum called “Reflections” was developed for students to go online and submit their reviews on the activities they had participated in. A public page was also developed for students to view past activities, details and other reviews.

A module was created for the lecturers to log in and look through the students who have applied for the activities that come under their purview. Base on their judgment & possibly budget constraints, they would be able to seek out those students whose applications they will likely approve.
